Week #6

In basketball projectile motion is the name of the game, in fact it is the primary objective to get the basketball to fly through the air and into the basketball hoop. Mass (how much matter and object takes up)  must be taken into account while shooting a basket because you must know how much something weighs in order to put the corrct ammount of velocity (the distance an object moves over a period of time) on it so the ball will not fall short of the hoop. But even with knowing the mass and velocity, the athlete must also take into account the angle ( the space between two diverging lines or plan) that is needed for the ball to be shot from to allow elequent enry into the hoop from above while avoiding the rim.
1:  55 m/s is an example of ?
     a) Mass
     b) Velocity*
     c) Angle
     d) Gravity
2:   This picture is an example of ?
      a) Mass
      b) Velocity
      c) an Angle *
      d) Displacement
3: This device is used to measure ?
      a) Mass*
      b) Velocity
      c) Angles
      d) Distance

week 5 post

The car that is most likely to explode on impact is car be. Even though car A has equal velocity (distance over time) to begin with, once the car goes over the edge it begins to positively accelerate (change in distance over time) and push its velocity over car A's and car B's. Also, falling off the cliff increases the chance of landing on something that would puncture the fuel tank.
1)When does a football, if thrown straight up into the air have an acceleration of 0?
                                A:) At the top                                  B:) Never  *
C:) As it moves upward                   D:) As it moves down
 2) If a vehicle is at rest and has a top speed of 265 mph but is unable to accelerate, what speed can you get it up to?
                                A:) 183 mph                                    B:) 0 *
                                C:)265 mph                                     D:) 5mph
 3) If a vehicle is accelerating at 2 meters per second while already going 10 meters per second how long will it take to get up to 20 meters per second?
                                A:) 5 seconds   *                               B:) 0
                                C:) 10 seconds                                D:) 2 seconds

4th blog assignment

When a plane is in the air on cruise control it can be traveling with a velocity ( how quickly an object is changing displacement over a period of time) of close to 400 mph. While at the same time have an acceleration (the rate at which velocity changes) of 0 m/s^2. This is possible because though the plane is continuously moving, the velocity and direction are staying the same.

       1) Which of the following situations show a person having no acceleration?
             A) A skier going down a slope
             B) A car hitting its brakes
             C) A man sleeping on the couch. *
       2) When do you not have acceleration?
             A) When you are moving at a  constant speed? *
             B) When you are slowing down?
             C) When you are changing direction?
       3) What is the acceleration of this vehicle?

               A) 50mps^2
               B) 0 mps^2  *
               C) 500 mph

3rd post

In a marathon velocity is more important than acceleration because it is more about speed over time. Acceleration is the force behind which something is moving either faster or slower where as velocity is just speed calculated by displacement.
  1. What is acceleration? The force behind motion.
  2. What is the difference between the acceleration sign and the speed sign? The squared symbol.
  3. Is acceleration a scale or vector? Vector.
When a problem has a zero in it do we just act like it isn't there?
Are these due before Friday?
Do we need to square acceleration in the problems?

2nd Blog Post

When you are driving in a car there has to be acceleration because if there was no acceleration than the car would either never start moving or never stop moving. Also there would be no change in speed such as slowing down or speeding up, as well as there could be no change in direction like we do when we turn the steering wheel.
  1.  If a time Vs. distance graph is curved is there acceleration? - Yes
  2. What is the symbol for acceleration? m/s2 (meters per second squared)
  3. If there is no change in speed, velocity or direction, is there acceleration? No
When finding the acceleration which variables should we look for first?
I am having problems putting the variables into the equations.
